Yellowstone Distillery

Yellowstone is a pretty old pre-prohibition bourbon brand. It was created in the 1870s by J.B. Dant at the Gethsemane Distillery, and is named after the Yellowstone National Park – the world’s first national park – which opened in 1872. When Prohibition ended in 1933, J.B. Dant and his sons built the Yellowstone Distillery. The Glenmore Distillery Company bought the Yellowstone Distillery in 1944, and for a while Yellowstone Bourbon was the largest selling whiskey brand in the United States. Diageo bought Glenmore in the early 1990s and immediately shut it down, selling off the brands to other distilleries. Yellowstone was distilled at Heaven Hill for a while, and is currently produced at the newly-built Limestone Branch Distillery, founded by descendants of J.B. Dant.
