Whereas most bourbon distillers have a single recipe that they use, Four Roses has a unique system of recipes. With two mashbills and five yeast strains, they actually have ten different possible combinations that they can whip up. Four Roses 2017 Small Batch Release is a blend of 15 year old, 13 year old and 12 year old bourbons, with different yeast profiles and a high corn mash bill. It has a nose of light caramel with notes of apricot, raspberry, cherry and cinnamon on the palate. The finish is spicy and sweet with those berry flavors fading away in the background.
