Right next to the Balblair Distillery in Edderton stands Clach Biorach. With its archetypal carved Z Rod markings this ancient standing stone is in the middle of a Pictish gathering place where tribes met over 3000 years ago. Now the whisky in the Balblair Vintage 1969 can’t claim to be THAT old, but it’s still pretty old! The people at Balblair have been searching through their stocks and uncovered this absolute gem distilled in 1969 and aged for 43 years and bottled in 2012. The nose has billows of spice and smoke along with tropical fruits of mango, peach, melon and a sprig of mint. The palate is refined and elaborate, starting with orange, apple and banana developing into spicy oak, smoke and vanilla. The finish is spicy and goes on and on.
