Bowmore is the first licensed distillery on Islay, where it has stood since 1779 copping a real battering from the rough elements. In fact the distillery is located below sea level where a natural dyke holds back the sea water, but definitely not the wind and the sea spray! Over the centuries the distillery has changed hands many times. It was even commandeered by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War and served as the base for three squadrons! It is now owned by Beam Suntory but still produces whisky in traditional, hand-crafted ways. This is an older bottling with the classic screen printed label. Bowmore 12 Years Old Screen Printed Label has a soft nose of raisins, sea salt, caramel, vanilla and light floral peat. The palate has a sweet floral character with marshmallows and baked apples. The finish has soft oak, rose water and tobacco.
