Bowmore isn’t just the oldest distillery on Islay, it also is one of the few distilleries left in Scotland that malts its own barley. And if you’re very lucky, you can even visit the Bowmore distillery and hand-fill your very own bottle straight from the cask using a traditional valinch, just like they’ve been doing at Bowmore for hundreds of years! These are extremely exclusive bottles, only available from the distillery itself. You won’t find this on any normal bottle shop shelf. Bowmore 16 Years Old Hand-Filled 1997 Cask #23 has a nose of sultanas, raisins, fruitcake and peel. The palate has layers of peat smoke with nuts, orange, a few drops of maritime brine, allspice and treacle. The finish is nice and smoky with raisins and mint. The bottle comes with a drawstring cloth carry-bag.
