Glenrothes 24 Years Old Cadenhead Small Batch is a single malt from the Speyside distillery Glenrothes, released by Cadenhead for their Small Batch series. The Glenrothes distillery is located right next to a cemetery. Legend says the place is haunted by the ghost of Biawa ‘Byeway’ Makalanga, an African orphan boy who was brought to Scotland in 1894 by Major James Grant, the proprietor of the Glen Grant Distillery. A well-known character in the town of Rothes, Byeway served as Major Grant’s servant until his death in 1931. Biawa ‘Byeway’ Makalanga passed away in 1972 and was buried at the local cemetery – adjacent to Glenrothes. Six years after his death, the stillman at Glenrothes reported to have seen a silent presence in the distillery… That certainly gives a new meaning to the term ‘whisky spirit’. The whisky was distilled in 1989 and matured in a bourbon barrel for 24 years. It was bottled in December 2013 at a cask strength of 56.9%. Only 360 bottles have been released.
