The newly-reopened Glengyle distillery started production in 2004. Work In Progress is an annual release leading up to the distillery’s first 12-year-old whisky. Here we have the very first release in the series, distilled in March 2004. It matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks for five years and was bottled in 2009 at 46%. Only 9000 bottles were released. The Glengyle distillery was originally founded in 1872, but closed after less than fifty years in 1925. In 2004, Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd. (led by Hedley Wright, the great-great nephew of Glengyle’s founder William Mitchell) rebuilt and reopened the Glengyle distillery.
