The Rebel Yell brand was created in the 1950s by Charles R. Farnsley, a former mayor of Louisville, for the legendary Stitzel-Weller distillery. ‘Rebel yell’ was the name used to refer to the battle cry of the Confederate soldiers in the Civil War. The brand was purchased by Luxco in the 1980s, who began distributing the bourbon nationally. This classic and dusty bourbon is part of the Deep South series, distilled and distributed mainly for the southern states. It was released in the 1990s at 80 proof, and exported for the Japanese market. It was bottled in the time that production moved away from Stitzel-Weller to Heaven Hill, but it’s uncertain which of the two distilleries made the bourbon inside this bottle. Up until recently, the confederate flag was still visible on many export releases. Nothing of the sorts on this Rebel Yell The Deep South, but we do see a lovely soldier riding his horse into battle on the front label.
