The lands around Laphroaig were originally used to raise cattle. But to feed cattle you need barley. And when you have excess barley what do you do? Make whisky of course! By 1815 the word had got around that the whisky being made by brothers Donald and Alexander Johnstone was top notch. Soon it was more profitable to make whisky than work with cattle so Laphroaig whisky was born. In fact the story goes that Donald died when he fell into a vat of partially made whisky. Now THAT’S dedication to the whisky game! Friends of Laphroaig is the distillery’s customer loyalty club and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the club, Laphroaig 11 Years Old Friends Of Laphroaig 10th Anniversary was specially selected by Robert Hicks and Robin Shields and bottled up for the occasion. The nose is a little fruity with vanilla, smoke and oak. The palate is sweet with toffee, honey, floral notes, pepper, peat and pine tree sap. The finish has notes of vanilla and toffee.
