Talisker 27 Years Old Vintage 1985 Maritime Edition is a limited-edition Talisker single malt, released in 2013 as part of Diageo’s highly anticipated Special Releases. The whisky was distilled in 1985 and aged for 27 years in refill American oak casks. It was bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.1%. 3000 individually numbered bottles were released. The modern look for this release is inspired by the international maritime signal flag system, with ‘Talisker’ and ‘1985’ written in the nautical flag alphabet. Talisker 27 Years Old Vintage 1985 Maritime Edition is initially soft and sweet on the nose with aromas of shortcrust pastry and rich dark chocolate. This is followed by notes of raspberry juice, warming smoke, home-made chocolate chip cookies, mixed-berry jam, ripe red apples and beeswax. The palate starts out salty and sweet with dried apple and pear. It then becomes warming and spicy with ginger and clove, before growing rich and malty with flavours of plum pudding, fruitcake and pine-wood smoke. The finish is long and silky smooth with lingering notes of dark chocolate, ripe plums, seaweed, cigar box and elegant smoke.
