The Tormore distillery was founded in 1958 by Schenley in order to produce whisky for their Long John blend. It was the first new distillery to be built in Speyside after the whisky boom of the 1890s. The first official Tormore bottling was released in 1994, but the official range is rather small and independent bottlings are rare. The majority of the production is used in the Ballantine’s blend. Tormore 31 Years Old Hunter Laing Old & Rare 1988 is an independent bottling from Hunter Laing, drawn from a single Oloroso sherry butt filled back in 1988. Just 288 bottles were produced at a cask strength of 49.1%. The single malt has aromas of hazelnuts, coffee, chocolate and tobacco on the nose. The palate is spicy and nutty with some toffee, leading to a long and rich finish with a touch of pepper. Please note that it takes two spaces in a parcel.
