Glendronach Distillery
Glendronach was founded in 1826 by a local farmer consortium led by James Allardice. The distillery was taken over by Teaninich manager Walter Scott in 1852, who successfully ran it until his death in 1887. Glendronach was subsequently taken over by a consortium from Leith. In 1920, the distillery was bought by Charles Grant, the youngest son of Glenfiddich founder William Grant. Glendronach was taken over by William Teacher & Sons in 1960, who increased the number of stills from two to four. Allied Breweries acquired William Teacher & Sons in 1976. Glendronach was mothballed in 1996, and production resumed in 2002. The distillery temporarily closed in 2005 for renovations, when it switched from coal to indirect firing by steam. It reopened in September that year, now under the ownership of Chivas Brothers. Glendronach was sold to the owners of Benriach in 2008. In 2016, Brown-Forman acquired Glendronach in a deal that also included Benriach and Glenglassaugh.
